Who are we?

The Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy is the first Land successfully returned to the Tongva community of Los Angeles in over 180 years (since colonization). Led by an all Native board, the TTPC is dedicated to creating an inclusive and friendly environment around Land stewardship and cultural conservation. In the midst of our difficult work of undoing the harms of colonization we believe in creating an empathetic, inclusive, and fun work space that prioritizes the joy of community driven activism. 

Opportunities

  • The Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy (TTPC) seeks a Director of Programs & Land Operations to lead land stewardship, ecological restoration, and community engagement at Huhuunga. This role oversees daily operations, land management, and program development while ensuring alignment with Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and conservation best practices.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee land restoration, maintenance, and operations in alignment with TEK and other Tongva principles 

    • Ensure all initiatives and projects are in compliance with TTPC institutional goals, priorities and board-approved budgets

    • Supervise gardeners, land stewards, volunteers,and contractors for conservation effort

    • Develop and implement educational programs on Indigenous land stewardship

    • Manage infrastructure, irrigation, and fire prevention plans
      Ensure compliance with grant-funded projects and environmental policies

    Qualifications

    ✔ 7+ years in land management, environmental conservation, or operations management
    ✔ Experience supervising teams and contractors in land-based projects
    ✔ Strong knowledge of TEK, native plant restoration, and ecological sustainability
    ✔ Background in budgeting, project management, and grant compliance
    ✔ Passion for Indigenous-led conservation and community engagement

    Compensation: Competitive consulting fee with potential for a permanent role
    Duration: 6-month consultancy (potential transition to full-time)
