THE PEOPLE’S LAND

The Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy is a Tongva-led organization created to steward lands in Tovaangar, the traditional Tongva region, which encompasses the greater LA basin. The Conservancy's mission includes various initiatives such as receiving land back, creating community and housing for Native people, practicing traditional ceremonies, establishing a Native archive, and rematriating the land.

"Taraxat" is the Tongva word for Indigenous people in its plural form. It is used in this context to emphasize that the conservancy aims to preserve the people and the culture of the Tongva, in addition to the land. "Paxaavxa" is the Tongva word for a piece of land.

“We have the first opportunity to come together as a community to heal the land”

Kimberly Morales Johnson (TTPC Executive Director)
